17 - 8:30 PM
What do Quincy Jones, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Flying Lotus all have in common? They are all fans of Louis Cole. Whether you call him «the new white Stevie Wonder» or «Jamiroquai 2.0», one thing is for certain: this young singer, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, living in Los Angeles, must be considered with the greatest respect, on the same footing as a «Flying Lotus» or a «Dâm-Funk». His latest album, Time, just goes to prove it: a totally addictive mixture of electro-funk missiles and fascinating, hazy nostalgic meanderings.
It was ten years ago that our man co-created the alt-pop/electro-funk group «Knower» with Genevieve Artadi, before making a name for himself as a solo artist, partly also thanks to his quirky and impressive Youtube videos in which he gives a real demonstration of his dexterity, instruments in hand (drums and keyboard) and his talent for funky rhythms, especially fast ones. His connection with the jazz world is personal, to say the least: «The only thing to which I feel close today, is that total liberty at the very root of jazz: no limits, just do what you think is right at any given moment; an incredible freedom which you don’t find anywhere else».
