S3NS, Ibrahim Maalouf’s 11th studio album, is a new adventure in which the artist launches himself with the insolent freedom that only independent artists can still take the liberty of having. Selfproduced, this album, like all of Ibrahim Maalouf’s previous albums, comes within the scope of this logical continuation of creative craft construction, the Latino-American influences of which are striking from the very first track.
In the past, Ibrahim has had the good fortune of collaborating with many South-American artists: from Angel Parra of Chile – son of the great poetess Violetta Parra – with whom he recorded an entire album over 17 years ago, to Lhasa De Sela, the incredible Mexican-American voice which charmed the whole world with The Living Road.
Ibrahim has also crossed paths and collaborated with many Cuban artists including Raul Paz, Ernesto Tito Puentes, Omar Sosa, Ibeyi, etc. to cite just a few.
On this new album, Ibrahim has surrounded himself with guests of great talent, in particular three masterful pianists of the new Cuban generation: Harold Lopez Nussa, Alfredo Rodriguez and Roberto Fonseca, but also saxophonist Irving Acao and violinist and singer Yilian Cañizares.
S3NS therefore seemed a foregone conclusion. Not really jazz, nor exactly pop, and sometimes rock, Ibrahim Maalouf delivers diverse music, fresh, nostalgic but always just as unclassifiable…
Pure Maalouf, Latino style!
