Soirée Gospel Spécial 60e Jazz à Juan
"Jazz à Juan" is the only European festival to have always considered the "song of the soul" as the sacred source of jazz. The proof: in 1960, the first edition of the festival welcomed Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Then Ray Charles, Dionne Warwick, Nina Simone, Marion Williams, Mahalia Jackson, James Brown, The Neville brothers, Sharon Jones, Marva Wright etc.
This year, in the purest gospel tradition, the authentic and courageous expression of a black people subjected to slavery to cultivate the cotton fields, we are welcoming a prestigious ensemble, now masters in the art of performing these songs inspired by religion and specially composed to celebrate this 60th anniversary.
Led by Linda Lee Hopkins who has been choir leader and artistic director for 10 years of the chorale "Gospel pour 100 voix", they will certainly be demonstrating their extraordinary vocal power, their fiery temperament and their outstanding scenic presence.
As every year, following the tradition initiated in 1965 by "Jazz à Juan", this Gospel concert will be preceded, during the first half-hour, by an ecumenical celebration.
