Rhoda Scott “Ladies All Stars”

A legend in jazz! Thanks to her physical performance anchored in swing, her speed and incredible sense of melody, the organist Rhoda Scott numbers among the greatest representants of her tradition. As a pastor’s daughter, she grew up in the atmosphere of black churches on the East Coast of the United States and has kept that strong desire to share. She made her début alongside Count Basie in Harlem, then played on the biggest stages of the world with Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, Ray Charles, Lionel Hampton, Ella Fitzgerald... After coming to France to study under Nadia Boulanger, she adopted this country as her homeland.

A star in her own right, today Rhoda Scott is welcomed all over the world. Where did her success come from? An all-inclusive talent, since she is equally at ease with classical music as she is with jazz, gospel and blues, in which her swing and immense musicality have made her a reference. On stage, she has the charisma of the greats. Just as natural in daily life as she is on stage, she carries the audience with her through time and staves: a mixture of jazz, Negro spiritual and gospel tunes, etc. A great artist, she lives with and for her instrument, the Hammond organ. She enjoys herself on stage: you can see it… and hear it!
