9 - 8:30 PM
As a very experienced pianist, Roberto Fonseca has already played in Juan as a guest star, in the formation which accompanied the late Ibrahim Ferrer, his friend, in 2003. Since then, few artists have shown such virtuosity and technique, with so much passion in their playing. Roberto Fonseca pulls everything off with ease: jazz of course, but also funk, blues, rap, afro jazz, soul, hip-hop and - last but not least – the music of Cuba, his homeland for which he has become one of the great ambassadors.
As producer, arranger, conductor and composer, Roberto Fonseca is one of those pianists whose lives are motivated by a curiosity leading to a desire to create, making his art and the talent with which he performs it into a science. His enthusiasm earned him a position with the Buena Vista Social Club, then the possibility of performing with the biggest names (Rubén González, Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker, Wayne Shorter…), before going on to establish himself as one of the major figures of current Cuban jazz, and jazz in general. "I am so enthusiastic about having the opportunity to share this journey with my audience, wherever they welcome me." And "Jazz à Juan" is pleased to accept this invitation… to travel!
