Chucho Valdes & Paquito D'Rivera reunion sextet
60 years! The shared musical adventures and the close friendship between pianist and composer Chucho Valdés and saxophonist, clarinettist and composer Paquito D'Rivera go back 60 years, but they have rarely crossed paths these past decades. The prizes, the honours, the shelves filled with awards… recount only a part of the story of these immense musicians. Chucho Valdés and Paquito D'Rivera have amassed more than 25 Grammys and Latin Grammys in total. But their contribution to music, together and individually, goes far beyond figures and medals.
Today, Chucho and Paquito are making up for lost time with a new album, "I Missed You Too" and a world tour.
For this reunion, they have surrounded themselves with an outstanding ensemble: Diego Urcola on trumpet and valve trombone, Armando Gola on double bass and electric bass, Dafnis Prieto on drums and Roberto Jr. Vizcaino on percussions. The chosen repertoire includes former successes, some of which are already Latin-Jazz classics, as well as classics from the Latin-American repertoire and original compositions. "I’d always hoped to be close to Paquito again and to perform with him again," said Chucho. "I’d always hoped for that. And now, here we are!"
